      Glenn in Arkansas writes:

I have a very old antique bronze bell mounted in a very old bent wood mtg. frame that measures 16-1/2″ tall in frame bell height is 12-1/4″,the bell base is 8″ long and is rectangle. I’m curious who made it and what it was used for. I wanted to know what it was used for and possible age and where its from. Thanks

This is a bronze bell that was made in either Indonesia or Burma. Some of these were imported by SSSarna in the 1930s & 40s. I have heard it described as a water buffalo bell, but obviously the wooden frame would not have been worn by an animal.

Hi Glenn, We talked by phone and I told you I’d take a look. I agree with Harry Long about the origin. It definately is a bell from the far east based on it’s shape. — Neil
