I have 17 inch bell that I think is bronze. A magnet does not stick to it. The writting on it says. Matthew Byrn James’st Dublin Presented by Rev J.J. Smith 1880 It also has small flowers on it similar to a three leaf clover.[attachment=0:h807584e]bell2.jpg[/attachment:h807584e]

Jeanne: Yes, it is bronze. The first line is the maker. The Fountainhead Bell Foundry & Engineering Works (Matthew Byrn) was located on James St in Dublin. The family name was later changed to O’Byrne by the son, also named Matthew. This bell must have been a gift to a church by Rev Smith. Here’s a photo of a 1915 Fountainhead bell (Matthew O’Byrne) with all it’s components in Newcastle England. The shape is identical to your bell.

That is so amazing. How should I sell it? We are worried it will get stolen if we display it. I wish I could find the church but have not had any luck finding history. Thanks so much.

A bell this small can easily by polished and displayed inside your house. Makes a nice conversation piece.
