Your railroad bell is most likely from a diesel-electric locomotive and most likely made by the Electro-Motive Division of General Motors Corporation, commonly referred to as “EMD.” General Motors Diesel, Ltd. From your photos, your bell needs a lot of restoration.

Is the bell steel or brass? (try the magnet test). I would guess that it is steel because it has been covered in paint. Steel would make it a modern bell from a diesel-electric engine.

As is…. the bell is worth less than a hundred bucks.
I can take it, refurbish it and the value will double.

I suspect this is a cast iron bell. If it is brass add 30%.

Do not let this bell die. Go local – find a guy like me that can polish your bell.
The blue paint pretty much ruined any historic value. You can restore it to “Show Condition”.
“Show Condition” is better than a bell painted blue.
