      Brian in Cobtown, GA, asks:

Looking for info on a copper bell weighing 84 pounds. Has 1976 uscg casted on it. The bell is 5in. across top 15 across bottom. 1 ft. Tall. Would like to get a value of the bell. Can’t find any info on it. Thanks for helping me. I hate to see things like this scraped and sold as junk. It’s a piece of our history.

If you can help, please post a response.

USCG stands for US Coast Guard. This is a fairly recent bell and probably was cast for use at a Coast Guard base. If it were from a Cutter, it would probably still be on the ship.

This bell would be worth at minimum its value as bronze scrap. In general bronze bells are worth $100 per inch diameter at the lip. Thus this bell could be worth about $1500. If you have provenence and a history, then it could be worth much more.
