Train bell with Brass lower cradle.

Just posting as I am curious if anyone has ever seen a train bell with the lower part of the cradle being solid brass? I recently bought a bell and when it was delivered, to my pleasant surprise, the lower part of the cradle is sold brass. Due to being tarnished, you could not tell it was brass in the pictures of it. I have seen 100’s of bells on the Internet but, have never seen one with a cradle with part of it being made of brass. It is a train bell and it is made as part of the cradle and not an add on by somebody. The upper part of the cradle is cast iron and both pieces are made to bolt together as they do. The only info I was given with it was that it came from Chicago from the seller’s ( who was an older gentleman) great uncle who worked for the RR there many many years ago. There are no markings on the bell that ID where it came from as is the case for most bells.
I know enough about bells to be dangerous and that is about it so I am hoping someone else out there can shed some light and info for me.
The only way to keep info about RR items out there is to let others know what we may know.
As always, thank you for your time and info.

Did you check it with a magnet? A former owner might have had it brass plated. Can you upload a photo?

I had not thought about it being plated. I will check that out and will try to get pics uploaded in the future. I have it apart right now polishing and re-doing it.
Thanks for the reply!!

I checked and it is solid brass.
I will try to post a picture of it once I am done re-doing it.

I’d like to see this too. I just bought one that has a brass mounting.
I am waiting for it to be delivered as I don’t know if it’s a special table mounting that was made for it or if it’s something that came off a small yard engine. I think, from the photo I saw, that it’s a special table mount for a board room or some such.
I am curious to see how it compares with yours!
