I have a large bell about 17″ Diameter that says The Jones & Co. Troy N.Y. 1880. I am assuming that the bell was made in 1880 but when I go online it looks like the date indicated for bells made by that company ended just prior to 1880. Also just wondering what the material it is made from, its sort of dull brass colour. The bell is in great shape and says St Josephs Mission Great Slave Lake. I am trying to get more information about the bell. Any ideas

Geoff: Your bell is bronze. Eber Jones and his business partner James Hitchcock began the Troy foundry in 1852. Hitchock retired in 1857. After Eber Jones died at age 51 his son Octavous took over until the foundry closed in 1887.
