We have a large church bell with the date 1909 on the top and a cross etched below. On the other side at the top are some words but they are very faint. The initial R seems to be there and a little farther along the word ROSS. Would you have any info on such a bell?

You haven’t told us if it is a bronze or iron bell. If a magnet will stick to it, it is either iron or steel, not bronze. There was a firm in Chattanooga named Ross Meehan Foundries which made iron bells. It was also referred to in a letter from the Chattanooga Library dated 1974 as Ross-Meechan Foundries, but I think that was a mistake. That is the only one I know of with the name Ross in it. — Neil
