Hi, I’m looking into making some custom parts for guitars, and I’d really like to use traditional bell metal. I think the composition is usually around 80/20 CuSn. Has anyone here seen this or a similar alloy available in ingots, square rod, or flat bars? I’ve been searching all over the online metal dealers with no luck. Do traditional bellmakers just have to smelt their own bronze? Thanks for your help.
Yes, you are correct, large bell casters mix their own copper and tin before pouring. I’m not sure about small bell casters who use silicon bronze. My bet is the art casters buy it pre mixed as the quantities would be small.
