I have a 9 1/2 inch dia brass ships bell with the crest of King George VI. I am looking for any history available for this bell. I would like to extend my knowledge on ships bells.

    Hi bleuwayne,
Your bell is indeed a ship bell from England. It was made during the reign of George the VI, hence the GR IV for George Regent the IV.
I have this exact bell and also one marked ER that is older and slightly different.
I believe these bells were most likely used on all military ships and possibly other significant vessels. The right to use the stamp of the monarchy is bestowed only to a few quality tradesmen by each King or Queen.
    hope this helped.

      Thanks Laura:
I have the bell hanging in my shop. I found this bell at a recycle place without the clapper. Can you post a photo of the correct clapper.
      Thanks Wayne

Thanks, I will try to duplicate this clapper. Is it iron or brass?
