I bought this gong on Ebay UK recently. It stands 18 inches high with a diameter of 10 inches. In my opinion it is a classic sanctus gong. The seller described it as a table bell and was not able to say where it came from. Can anyone offer any information – any ideas who might have made it. Anyone seen this design before?

These Sanctus bells were heavily used in the Catholic Church. They came with one, two or three gongs stacked one above the other, normally tuned to each other and of different notes. At one of our American Bell Assoc conventions in California a collector of these sold their entire collection and they were spectacular. Many people didn’t bid at the auction because they had flown to the convention, so those who drove got some really good buys. They were made by many different firms and appear in old bell company cataloges.
