Dave Verdin explains the procedure that was followed to cast the Norwich Freedom Bell last night in Norwich, CT, in honor of the 150th Anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation. This morning, the bell will be broken out of its mold and then polished.

At least 5 members of the American Bell Association were present at the pouring.

The Norwich Freedom Bell has been broken out of its mold and polished up. You can see a video of the newly cast bell, the parade to take it from the Norwich waterfront, where it was cast, to the City Hall, where it will stay until the bell tower is erected, at http://www.norwichbulletin.com/photos/video/x448221534/VIDEO-Freedom-Bell-at-Norwich-City-Hall.

Those of us who were at the breaking of the bell out of its mold were offered pieces of the bell that were knocked off before the bell was polished.

The event was an exciting one and attracted a good sized crowd over the course of three days. Jen and I agreed that it was definitely worth the three-hour drive down to Connecticut! I’ll be posting photos soon.

Here is another video from the website of the Norwich Bulletin. This one shows the two trucks arriving at the waterfront. Dave Verdin is interviewed and tells the history of the mobile foundry. http://www.norwichbulletin.com/photos/video/x448218483/VIDEO-Verdin-arrives-at-Howard-T-Brown-Park?page=0
