I have a real old farm bell no 1. It looks like it was red at one time. Kinda orange under rust now. I’m looking for history and how old this bell might be. Its no reproduction. I would like to hang it but I have no holder for it.

Is it a cs bell and co or American casting co? There were others…Goulds…Belknap….Lakeside Foundry…Fredericktown . Does the crank fit on the ends of the yoke? That’s a good sign of an old one. If it has a cast ring inside about halfway up? If it does its a repo. The newer bells cranks fasten to the yoke ends with a bolt. The old ones fits on the ends or yoke trunnions.

My email is aj6264@comcast.net. it would be easier to send pics that way. I’m just trying to figure out what I have. I not interested in selling. I’m 53 and my grandfather picked it up somewhere.

This bell is about 14.5″ in diameter. 9″ tall . The yoke is 21″ long and only round 2″ from each end. The arm to attach a rope is mounted in the center of the Bell with a square nut. I did find one picture of one with an upright that wraps entire bell and mounts to post on each end. This is a very loud bell. I tried to attach a picture but file size is too large.

I am looking for correct way to put this bell in back yard. I can’t find a reproduction upright that will work. If there is none available and that’s not how they were mounted tell me. I’m looking for ideas.

Go to a local machine shop and have them bend a 1 inch steel pipe similar to the upright shape of a farm bell. You may have to take your bell there too so they can make it the right size. Im in Virginia but if I were close, I would cast you an upright cradle to fit it. I pour cast aluminum in sand molds. Then you could spray paint bell and new upright flat black and it would look real nice.
