I am looking for any information about this bell I can get. Including value? Date it was made? I believe the 1840 was when he starting the business in KY. Or was it made then? It is 11 1/8 inches diameter on the bottom of the bell. From the bottom of the bell it is 6 inches high to the top of the bell and 11 ¾ high to the top of the eagle. On the top yoke is “Belknap 1840 Louisville, KY” on the other side top yoke is “Yoke 62”. The bottom yoke has “Steel Alloy 62” on the other side bottom yoke is “upright.” The bottom yoke has 3 holes in it. The only markings on the bell itself is on the top outside “62” and nothing on the inside. Thanks for looking.
Jimmy: Your bell was made by CS Bell Co in Hillsboro, Ohio and trademarked for Belknap. It was sold by the hardware in the first quarter of the 20th century. Sorry I can’t narrow down the date but CS was in operation a long time and did not date it’s small bells. Most of it’s large bells were not dated either. Type “hillsboro” in the Search (above right) for lots of info on this foundry. Like anything else, it’s worth the highest amount someone will give. If you want to sell put it on eBay with a starting bid of $100 and in 7 days you’ll know it’s value.
