[attachment=1:nlpbannv]photo-1.jpg[/attachment:nlpbannv]New to forum (and bell stewardship ) so please forgive inaccurate language. Purchased old school bell and upright at yard sale, setting in yard side by side. Took to sandblaster and it became evident the yoke had been broken and repaired. Also the pull had been broken off and was missing. Made a suitable post, bolted in the upright, leveled all. When I placed the bell in the upright it wants to flop over and not hang squarely. Closer examination shows the upright opening to accept the upright has much slop, maybe 1/8″ and the bar sits at a slight angle in the upright on one side.
Question is: is this set up a lost cause? Can I modify to correct the problem, whatever it is? Please help, it is way cool to have a nice bell hanging. It is 16 1/2″ diameter, no manufacture name in casting. I brazed on the cast wrench for a rope pull.
D, It’s hard to tell just from pics…maybe the wrenches are the cause. The bell is top-heavy, maybe the clapper is too large. An easy fix would be to attach a (an elastic) pull cord that holds the bell upright with a bit of slack for ringing. 💡 W
