I am a new member and primarily joined because I have a bell that remains a mystery to me. I had three views of it published in the “Bell Tower” this past edition but have had no responses. Perhaps that is because no one knows what it is but I thought I’d provoke comments through you.
It is the moderate sized bell dated 1682 with three animal shapes and some script carved into it.
I will certainly appreciate your comments and advice. Joe
The Bell Tower says:
Mystery Bell 2 is 10 inches tall with a base of 8 inches and the top 4.5 inches. It weighs 12 pounds and has a cast iron clapper. The tone is clear and pleasant. The date on it is of note, 1682. Questions: Are the animals of British or Middle Eastern origin? What are the letters on the bottom rim? The back is plain except for the lower rim scroll. The owner has had the bell for 50 years.
This inquiry was originally sent to the ABA’s Internet Coordinator. Responses are opinions of individuals based on their personal research and knowledge.
