      Jo-Ann in Georgia writes:

I purchased a bell several years ago, I was told it was Chinese but that was all I know. How can I find out more about it?

      She sends these pictures:

If you can help, please post a response. If you need help posting, please contact me at coordinator@americanbell.org. Please be sure to reference this post as from “Jo-Ann in Georgia” if you are going to send information to me. Thanks

A response from Al in Florida:

It’s a Tibetan Vajra Axe — one of five different Fire Ceremony Ritual Implements. There are four types of Fire Ceremonies. It’s a neat object, with seemingly authentic features — but only an expert could vouch for its antiquity.

The description and symbolism of the iconographic and artistic elements are too extensive to delve into here.

Your gal from Georgia can research information-in-depth at the library or on the internet. Inquiries at one of the universities should yield helpful direction. —AL
