Hello all I just purchased an 18 inch #3 bell and it has Morenci Mich. on the top yoke. I have tried to find info on it and just can’t come up with anything. I would appreciate any info on it if possible.

Your bell was cast at the W L Chappell Foundry which was established in Morenci in the 1870s. The foundry moved to Huntington, Indiana in 1907.

Thank you Jackbell. I can assume a production date between those years. Second question is are they rare because I haven’t found any other pics or info on them? I am definitely keeping it. I just restored a #7 Frederictown bell and can find room for another bell on our farm. Thanks again.

I think I’ve seen one other one besides yours. Most likely the foundry cast many kinds of items and bell production might have been limited to a short period of time due to competition from foundries that cast bells only.
