During a recent visit to Lyme Regis in Dorset I was sitting quietly by the sea front. And who should appear! A real live Town Crier about to make an announcement. Before he started I introduced myself to him and explained my interest in bells including my membership of the ABA. His bell was an old Whitechapel handbell engraved with all the Town Criers since 1914. It is insured by the Town Council for £2,000. Philip Street sends his best wishes to all. He had a fine voice and a bell that did justice to his job.
