I am Vice President of the Madison Ct Historical Society. We have a bell in the tower of an iconic school house we are restoring.
We were considering removing it because lately we have come to believe it has significant historical value as it may have been on an early Revenue Cutter. To replace it we have another bell in one of our storage buildings. I am looking for info on it. Inside it has the markings VNS 12-14-27, on the stanchion or cast frame it has the numbers 106190 followed by what looks like an anchor lying on its side. At the very top where the center bolt is are the numbers 2499. It is roughly 16″ diameter, 13-14″ tall, and I am guessing about 3 feet in circumference at the bottom. I have pictures if anyone wants me to send them. they were too large to load here. Any information I can get on the history of this bell would be very much appreciated. The sound of it is beautiful.

      Hi and Welcome!

A picture is worth a thousand words….is there any chance that you could take some photos of the bell and share them with us?

You could open a photobucket account, (an image hosting website)….then U can just post the link to the pics.
