Hello, My name is Steve. My family and I are looking for a clapper for a O.S. Bell bell #20. I have searched your site which list a few options but they all seem to run into a dead-end. I was hoping you might be able to direct or guide me. I think the clapper is about 20” long, cast iron? Thanks so much! Steve

If you can help, please post a response. If you need help posting, please contact me at coordinator@americanbell.org. Please be sure to reference this post as from “Steve in North Carolina” if you are going to send information to me. Thanks

The following reply has been sent to me:

It’s going to be a long and difficult process. A clapper is uniquely sized (length, mounting, weight and material) to every different bell design and size, so there will be hundreds (or thousands) of clapper designs for hundreds (or thousands) of bell designs, making finding one extremely difficult. Spare clappers are seldom kept by anyone, so it’s rare and unlikely that you will find one.

Manufacturers no longer produce bells of large size except by specific order (in bronze, usually) for use in churches or civic bell towers, so an iron clapper is equally unlikely. You may have to have one made.

You might try reading the forum post on our web site
( https://www.americanbell.org/belltalk/viewtopic.php?t=583 ) and asking at bells@prindlestation.com (listed therein) who have the molds for C.S.Bell bells (and, by the way, it is C.S. Bell, not O.S. Bell)
