Joel S. in Tennessee sends this story and request:
I am asking for any information about who refurbishes bells in Memphis, TN about 1963. The question is a bell I am trying to locate. A railroad locomotive bell from L&N RR was given to a church in McKenzie, TN in 1953. I know this much, one story was the bell was given to another church and it was stolen. The next story is the bell was taken to Memphis to have the bell worked on. The minister at the time Bro. L.H. Hatcher carried the bell in his car trunk while going to a doctor’s appointment and died while he was in town. The question does anyone know about anyone who may have had something to do with the bell in the area of repair. The bell was bronze and probably a 17″. I have found several pictures and a gentleman with University of Louisville has helped with RR history. There is a bell locally that is a RR bell but I can not find anyone to tell me the history since the original owner has died and the numbers do not relate to RR numbers. Thank You I am hoping the bell may be in a shop waiting for pick-up. Joel
