      The Rarest Of All Bells ?
      Finally a couple of pictures. Has anyone ever seen the Iron Maiden Bell ?

      Yep, Twice actually!
      Once on e-bay and once on e-bid.
      Not in person though. It is mentioned in one of my Donna Baker bell books too.

      Hi Peggy,
      There is a better photo in Mother’s first book. “The World of Bells.” See plate 8. I think we sold that bell thinking it was rather gruesome. To quote Mother, the Iron Maiden Bell depicted a “Famous torture devise which was used for women at the Alt-Nurnberg prison in Bavarian Alps. Spiked cloak opens to trap the guilty on and tortured her to death. An old rare bell”. Alan

      Also found the bell in Elsinore Springer’s “The Collector’s book of bells”, page 175.
      “… Like the Iron Maiden of Nuremberg… not an actual person, but a Medieval torture device that in 1965 Sotheby’s auctioned to Adrian Conan Doyle for more than six thousand dollars. It now stands in a Swiss Castle…The miniature bells copied from this statue do not open…”
