From Sandy, Church Historian of Martini Lutheran Church:

We have a Joshua Regester church bell bought on Dec. 17, 1868 and rung for the first time on Christmas Day. it was discovered at the festival held by the Maryland Institute. it weighs 1,200 lbs. and is a G sharp. it cost $554 and another $250 for the cost of hauling in a horse and wagon. The church is Martini Lutheran Church on 100 W. Henrietta St. The bell is now in our atrium and is rung every Sunday for a call to church and during the praying of the Lord’s Prayer. The bell and a smaller one are rung electroncially.

I could not register on your site but thought someone might like to know. office hours are 9-12 and the church no. is 410.752.7817 for an appointment to see them. Of course all are welcome to worship 11:00 Sun.

There is a picture of the bells on our web site martinilutheran.org under treasures.

I looked at the photo of your very nicely restored bells. I’ve noticed that many Lutheran churches built in the 19th century have 2 bells instead of 1.

Martini Lutheran Church started out with three bells. I guess when they took down the bell tower due to decay, they went to 2 bells.
