Prior to Convention we will be spending some time visiting towns South of Denver. On searching the internet I’ve found a link for the late Winston H. Jones bell museum in Evergreen. The link mentions that the collection was to be donated to Hastings College.

Please does anyone know whether it is still possible to view his magnificent collection, and if so, where is it now, and how do I get to see them.

      Thanks
      Joan

      Dear Joan,

The January-February 2008 issue of The Bell Tower features an article entitled Winston Jones’ Bells Still Entertain, Excite, and Enchant, a reprint of an article written by Stephen Knapp and published in the Canyon Courier on June 27, 2007. In the article it says:

At present, the bulk of Winston’s life’s work lies in crates and boxes on the Hastings College [Nebraska] campus while a committee formed for the purpose ponders how to proceed. Considering the scope of the donation, the bells may remain silent for some time.

“We just finished moving the last of it here within the last few months, and we’re currently working on an appropriate way to display the bells on campus,” says Chris Schukei, the school’s associate vice president for communications. “But it’s not going to be easy – it’s a huge collection. But we’re lucky to have it, and we’re going to do our best.”

So, Joan, we are all out of luck. The bells not only are no longer in Colorado, they are not currently on display anywhere. Let’s hope there are ABA members who have taken pictures at Winston’s museum who would be willing to share them with us online!

      See you at convention!
      Carolyn

      Hi Joan,

Unfortunately the collection is not available for viewing. The bells have already been moved to Hasting College and have not yet been put up for display. Looking forward to seeing you soon.

Thanks Laura for the information. We will be visiting a friend in Alliance, Nebraska prior to coming to the convention, what a shame that the bells are not yet on display, we would have added a visit to our itinerary. See you soon. Joan

      Hi Joan,

You will be glad to read this. Jane and I have the second best thing to Winston’s Museum. Even though the museum is gone, we have pictures and a DVD of the entire museum. This will be set up in the behold room at this years convention in Denver for viewing. Jane and I appraised the bells for Winston’s cousin. We hope that everyone who sees the DVD, and the pictures will be pleased with it.

      Hello Bruce

Don’t suppose you will be making copies of the DVD for sale at convention. It would be great to bring a copy back to show BCBI members who are unable to attend ABA conventions.

      Joan
