I have a table that belongs to my father. I have searched high and low and I cant find any information about this table or any like it. The table has Iron legs with the markings of ” T. GREEN & SON. LEEDS & LONDON” and a wood/leather top (no markings). NOW for the good part… It has a Small Push button Bell mounted into the table. The button is about the size of a US nickle, and reads ” Brown’s BELL Patent ” it is surounded by a ring of brass that is flush with the table.
I have not been able to find ANY information about this BELL.
SO hopefully you are the expert who knows, and can fill me in.. Thank you so much for checking it out, I look forward to hearing from you.
I can tell you nothing about the table itself, the manufacturer, or its intended purpose.
However, one of these bells was recently sold on British eBay. It was advertised as a door bell and assumed that it would be mounted horizontally. There is no reason that it could not be mounted vertically as well, as is the case with your table.
I had never seen one of these previously, and wrote about it in another posting on this website. See Part 50b at viewtopic.php?f=6&t=4193&start=65
Assuming it is of British manufacture, you might be able to find a registration number of the form Rd. xxxxxx somewhere on the piece and might be able to track that. If American, there might be a patent number and/or date.
