I am resoring a No. 1 Dinner Bell that was Muf. by C.S. Bell Co. Of Nillsboro ,Ohio. Does anyone know if the manufacturer used a lead paint to paint this bell?

Lead paint wasn’t banned in the US. until 1978, so if your bell was painted before that date it probably has lead in the paint. By the looks of your bell it was more than likely painted before 1978. I have several C.S.Bell bells and I am not sure if they painted their bells. I have a flier from a hardware store in Cedar Rapids Iowa from 1897 and C.S.Bell was advertising their bells as having a Rich Gold Bronze and the yoke and upright coated with an Indestructible Varnish.
