I Received an 1886 # 2 York, by C.S.Bell & Company. It is complete however someone sprayed it with silver spray paint. How & what do I use to remove the paint and preserve this great Bell. Thanks for any help, James

You can always paint over it, in which case when it chips, it will show silver. If you want to “do it right”, disassemble the bell and parts, have them sand blasted (your bell is steel not bronze so it won’t hurt it) then paint it with a good quality metal primer followed by a good quality metal top coat paint. Black was original for most iron and steel bells, but you can use any color you want. — Neil

Yes, it is better that you pait over it. if you stripp off the paint you will probably take some of the cast with it. it is already preserved witht he other paint and if not rusted any where, the best thing to do is pick the color you would like, and paint it. take care and enjoy
