Here’s an unusual bell I just obtained.
Anyone heard of “D’art Craftsman Corp” out of New York?
It is a Brass colored thin walled (very thin) steel or perhaps a thickish TIN bell.
1 3/4″ high on the bell, with the plastic shape on top taking it to just under 3 3/4″.
Holds a magnet.
on the inside lip is some punched letters. Forgive me if I get it wrong, I wear bifocals 😯 and the lettering is very small and compressed on a shiny surface! 😥
The writing is in block letters, two lines, one on top the other, inside the bell in the the 4/16ths ” bell skirt lip area. (so it is very tiny!)
“D’ART CRAFTSMAN CORP”
“NY USA PAT PEND”
There is evidence that a tag must have been glued inside at one time, but it is long gone now. Seller’s tag on back calls it a “brass bell/Celluloid” Got the brass bell wrong, but the celluloid appears correct (no does not smell burned when rubbed!).
I think it’s a dutch souvenir bell, but haven’t heard of the USA manufacturing and exporting such items before.

This bell has a two fold purpose. Not only is it a bell but it should have two shakers (salt and pepper) that hang from the yolk on the dutch girl’s shoulder. I have seen these at antique shows. I have a rooster which has the same purposes but it does not have any marks on it. Sorry I could not be of more help.

Not much help? I didn’t even know about the shakers! That’s a great start for me!
Could you post some photos so that I know what I am looking for please?
Thank you and Merry Christmas!

My photo capabilitys are…. to say the least….. lacking, but I will try, hopefully, after Christmas to get a photo posted. The shakers are about an inch and a half or so tall. Clear crystal and mine have kind of a “bumpy” texture (for lack of a better explanation) they have a metal cap that matches the bell with a hanger attached by which to hang on your dutch girl’s yoke. I hope this gives you a vague picture of what you are looking for. They easily get separated from the bell. We were at a sale this past summer that had one of these. The bell was on one table and the shakers on an other. I would suggest looking in the salt & pepper shaker area of your local second hand store or antique store. I often see them in these places.
Have A Merry Christmas!
