      Hello

Any ideas on this bell. Found it in my grandfathers chest. He lived in Romania most of his life so was thinking it was Eastern Europeon. Can anyone assist on this? Origin and value?

      Thanks

      Vastec2345,

This is a lovely bell but, unfortunately, I can tell you only one thing about it. You probably realize that the plunger is not original to the bell. It appears to be a wooden drawer pull. Nevertheless, it makes the bell functional so it can be used and enjoyed.

The ABA has several people with expertise about what we call mechanical bells and/or tap bells and we have had several articles about them in The Bell Tower, our bimonthly magazine. You can order reprints of these articles. To find the Bell Tower Directory, go to our Main Site (link at the top of this page) and click on “Bell Resource Center” in the main menu. Then click on “Bell Tower Directory” and it will download to your desk top. Directions for ordering reprints are given on page 1 of the directory. You will find the listings about Mechanical Bells on page 26 of the directory. The ABA Historian can tell you know what are the costs of copying and mailing.

      Good luck!
