I found this bell in a garden a few years ago, and and have had no success in finding out anything about it. I haven’t cleaned it, as I wouldn’t want to damage it anymore with incorrect cleaning products. Any insights will be gratefully received. Thanks
This is an odd shaped bell with a relatively thin skirt. The clapper hanger is steel rod and rather thin also. The size of the bell suggests a nautical use, but the steel clapper and hanger would rapidly corrode if used near the sea. I suspect that it was used on a freshwater boat or as a farm bell and is less than 50 years old.
