I THINK IT WAS A SCHOOL BELL AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW TO RESEARCH THE COMPANY I AM A COMPLETE NOVICE AT THIS . IF YOU CAN HELP PLEASE E MAIL ME AT SUDIET@YAHOO.COM THANKS
Dear genet, As far as I know, the National Bell Co made their bells of cast iron, not cast steel. I have a fairly large bell by this firm in my collection, and I’ve seen several bells by this firm over the years.
Accoarding to the Cincinnati Historical Society, the firm was in business from 1901 to 1921. I do not have a street address for the foundry.
At 21″ diameter, your bell would have been sold as a school bell. That doesn’t mean that was what it was used for, but that is what it would have been listed as in their catalogue. — Neil
