      Greetings from a new member,
In the park across from my house is an old fire bell on display. 39 1/2″ iron on a home made stand. Occasionally I would give it a rap when I walked by and finally I started wondering if there were any more bells around here. I have a pretty good digital camera and before long, I was amassing a photographic collection of several church bells in the area. I had already been photographing churches so bells seemed to be a natural extention of that and now I’ve got several photos with as much information as I can collect along with them.
I just discovered this site and hopefully I can send some pictures along pretty soon. So far my interest is in the big bells, which is good since it’s doubtful I’ll be able to start collecting such big objects. Photos will be enough.
      Jim

Boy am I jealous!! I can’t imagine what it would be like to have a park across form my house; I,furthermore, can’t imagine what it would be like to have so many large TREES nearby! The bell would merely be icing on the cake. You may surprise yourself in how many large bells you might be able to collect. Good hunting for bells and/or pic opportunities.

I recently learned that the date of this bell is from 1903.

Based on the shape of the bell, I would say with great confidence that it was made in Cincinnati, Ohio – the Cincinnati Bell Foundry Co. or Blymyer, Norton & Co. (Actually, those may be one and the same, but I have not yet found time to travel to Cincinnati to research the corporate histories in detail.)
