What type of strap is this? Approximately how old are the bells? The bells have a 3″ diameter. The strap & bells together weigh almost 6lbs.

This strap with 5 bells appears to be “Rump Bells’; Swedish Style. Single Bells on approx. a 3” wide double leather strap, including 4 bells on either side of a larger size – same style crotal bell or some had a center strap which was positioned over the rump of the horse and attached to the harness on working horses. These bells are cast with 3 throats, cutting the bell into 6 segments; called Swedish, most here in the U.S. were made in East Hampton, CT. Having a harmonic sound that gives the unique ring of these bells. Certainly a piece of Americana History.
