Hello im new to this site but i figured this would be the place to ask about a bell that i inherited from my uncle. its a L.M.Rumsey st louis 1886 has a number 2 on it… i have the bell and u shaped holder apparently it mounts to something with three bolts. the dinger or clanger is in there and the width from side to side is 15″ thats the big opening…. its 12″ tall bell and top part.
i dont think its made of brass just metal. its in really good shape i was thinking of selling but have no idea what its worth….any comments would be appreciated. i have good photos of all over it every part i can e-mail. i tried to add photos its saying my files too big to post..
Your bell looks to be in nice shape. It is either iron or steel, not bronze. It is a dinner bell and the three holes in the saddle were for bolting it to a post. If I told you what I thought it is worth, I’d likely be proven wrong by ebay. I’d go to ebay and look to see what iron and steel dinner bells are selling for. They are not uncommon so there usually are a couple for sale.
