Here is a link to a recent addition to my collection and blog:

When I first saw the bell I thought the handle had been damaged. But closer inspection showed a neat hole through which a leather thong could have been inserted. I have added a thong. Has anyone seen examples of this?

Actually, yes. I have seen this before. It was on a hand bell that ‘grandma’ had and hung from a peg on by the door. Simply as a device to hold the bell on the wall where there was no flat area to put it down. (Called ‘grandpa’ in for vitals, it did!).

I have seen it on a couple other bells too, and assumed it was for the same reason.

      Thanks Gary
In some ways it’s a natural way to see a bell. I have thought of having some hooks made from which to hang some musical handbells to show the different types of clapper. But they have leather handles and don’t need holes drilling through the handle!

      Regards
