I have a big copper bell with a wooden dangler (I’m not an expert, obviously). Is there a way someone can identify it for me? It’s rounded at the top, about 10 inches high, and 6 inches across. thanks, janie
This looks a lot like a Balinese Water Buffalo Bell. Does it hold a magnet? Is it thin or is it cast? Many of these were made out of sheet steel, riveted at the seem, and brass dipped. The wooden clapper is typical of Balinese bells as metal was in short supply. This was probably made in the 1920s-1950s. Other bells that have similar design are Swiss Cow Bells, but they usually have a steel clapper.

The style is certainly consistant with a Swiss Cow Bell of Pressed steel and brass dipped. The mounting bracket is odd since it appears to be steel rods and not the welded pressed steel that is usuall for these bells. They also usually have a steel clapper and not a wooden clapper. This bell must have been repaired over the years.
