Dr. Harry Long, died in a car accident this afternoon (1/20/2013), while returning home to Rochester (MN) after visiting his son and family in Minneapolis. Wife Louise is in a neck brace and will remain in the hospital for observation.
Harry (and Peggy) are third generation bell collectors and have been active in the ABA since youth. Harry was our ABA President in 1993. He is currently the chairman of the Membership Expansion Committee. Peggy said that Harry (“Hap”) “has done every job in the ABA except for Welcome Letter Writer.”
Harry and Louise met at the 1964 ABA convention in Boston, and celebrated their 45th anniversary in 2012. They have three children, and many grandchildren. Harry was a physician at Mayo Clinic in oncology.
Harry Long had extensive knowledge on the subject of bells and took a great interest in answering many a question posted here on the Bell Talk Forum. He will be terribly missed.

Harry Long had amazing knowledge of the world of bells and was very kind about sharing what he knew with others. He had made more than 250 postings on the “Bell Talk” Forum. Many people have expressed their appreciation for his help.
We will miss Harry’s many contributions to the ABA, this forum, and to the advancement of the hobby of collecting bells.
Thank you, Harry.
Louise, please accept our condolences. Harry was taken from us way too soon. We wish you a full recovery from your injuries.
I am among the many who will mourn his loss. May he rest in peace.
