We have a 1936 ship bell off the Norwegian merchant marine ship the M/S British Columbia Express. On the bottom, the outside diameter of the bell is 14.5″. I only have the bell itself, and am looking to see if it is possible to purchase a clapper for it, and if anyone knows how this would have been originally mounted on a ship? A picture of the ship and a history of it is located here: http://www.warsailors.com/singleships/britishcolexpr.html . Pictures are attached. Thanks in advance for your help!
Probably was mounted w/ an ‘eye bolt’ thru center top hole. You might try bellsandbirmans.com or Brosamers bells to locate replacement parts.Todd Lower of Lowerbells.com is very helpful and might be able to find a clapper for you… Maybe try to track dn the bell-maker.
Also maybe a do-it-yourself project…get a clapper and buy the hardware…not original parts, but at least the bell could be used. 💡
