I have recently discovered a brass bell. It measures 9 1/2 inches tall and the base is 5 1/2 inches across. The brass plate on the bell is inscribed G.W.R.R.CO. 1878. I am interested in finding the history of this bell. Does the G.W.R. stand for Great Western Railroad? I don’t know much about railroad history, but I’d love to learn.
I think I have the same bell: however, my bell has C.W.R. for Captain C.W. Rogers. It is a miniature reproduction of the original bell cast in 1880 and is called the Captain C.W. Rogers Centennial Brass Railroad Bell. I found this information on the Internet. On the Internet, it came up under the heading Frisco Railroad. This information was from a couple of years ago, so the web site my not be active now.
