70a – Antique Judaic Solid Silver Besamin Spice Tower with Bells circa 1930’s
This Antique Judaic Besimin Spice Tower measures approximately 2 inches or 51 mm across the width or diameter of its base or foot and it stands 8 1/4 inches or 210 mm tall.
The spice tower is made from solid silver with a raised relief wicker basket like central body that has a hinged door in one side and it stands on a raised step decorated circular foot, it has a gold coloured or gilded rotating flag on the top with four bells that hang from the underside of its central body and the spice tower has Not been engraved with a previous owners initials or family monogram all as photographed below, the rim of the foot has been impressed with an 800 standard solid silver mark and I estimate that this besamin spice tower was made circa 1930’s.

These items are relatively common and usually sell in the $200 range.

Sometimes a Torah Crown is used instead of the Rimonim.

=================================================================================================

How the Rimonim and Crown are used.
(Following information courtesy of ARF from FL.)

The Torah is stored in the Ark, the upper spindles adorned with the toppers or crown. For a prayer service, the Torah is carried to the stand and “undressed” – the rimonim or crown, breastplate, and mantle are placed on the stand, while the Torah and yad (pointer) are used for the service. Afterwards, the Torah is placed on the stand and re-dressed.
