249b – ANTIQUE BRASS LADY BELL. EARLY DRESS – AMAZING SOUND
ANTIQUE BRASS LADY BELL. EARLY STYLE DRESS.
AMAZING SOUND. SEE PICS FOR DETAIL.
MEASURES – 11.5 X 6 CMS.
WEIGHT – 470 GMS.

I am not sure how looking at pictures is supposed to confirm the “amazing sound”, but they do confirm the amazing ugliness of this casting. Details are weak all over, but the face (mouth and nose) are just a blob. Also note the casting flaws (crenelated lines) at front and rear of skirt. None of these bells are very well done, but this is worse than usual, and one like this should be avoided.

249d – LOVELY BRASS ART NOUVEAU VICTORIAN RECEPTION SHOP COUNTER BELL LEVER SPRING
This is for a nice genuine Victorian brass art nouveau counter bell circa 1890. It sits on a flat decorative base and has a tall finial centre of the dome. It has its original lever that when pressed and released strikes the dome sounding out a nice authentic ring. It is in excellent condition with no damage and a nice old used patina. The base is marked with the founders number 532 and it measures 70mm (2.75″) across by 90mm (3.75″) high.

Better made than the bar bell above, and the market valued it at double the cost of that item.

249e – ANTIQUE SOLID HEAVY STERLING FIGURAL SEAHORSE SERVICE RINGER BELL
Here is an antique solid heavy sterling figural service ringer bell in a seahorse form. The body of the bell has an engraved spiral pattern. It measures 2 5/8″ high and 1 3/4″ across bell base. Weight is 72.1 grams. Marked “sterling”, “1439” and has a stamped hallmark, which is hard to make out.

To my mind, the best bell in today’s group.

Some of the casting is relatiely crude, but then many of the mechanical bells are like this.
One thing I wonder about is that there seem to have been a relatively large number of this
particular bell offered for sale recently.
