187a – Cloche En Bronze Anno 1563 bell glocke
Cloche en bronze Inscription :
ANNO – 1563 F.HEMONY ME FECIT –
Hauteur: 20cm
Il manque le poids à l’intérieur.

Bronze bell marked with year 1563
Bronze bell inscribed:
ANNO – 1563 F.HEMONY ME FECIT –
Height: 20 cm (8 in)
It is missing the clapper in the interior.

The large so-called Hemony bell with bear and shield. All of the Hemony bells can be said to be fakes, now it gets into a question of older fakes (c. 1920) and newer fakes like this one. Lots of them around, price is dropping, relatively poor detail as seen in Pic 2, but not a bad buy if you do not overpay for what you are getting.

187b – A 19th c. Tibetan Engraved Bronze Temple Bell.
Tibetan, dating from the second half of the 19th century, (possibly earlier).
Of fine natural colour and patina, an authentic antique bronze temple bell – the upper extreme fitted with an ornate support for a striker. The support also forming a lug, allowing suspension of the bell.
The surface is finely engraved with engraved panels and cartouches – detailed above. A geometric ‘Greek key’ design forms a band above the base rim.
Height – 4 1/2″ (115mm).
Good, period condition – a slight crease to one area of the bell wall, (consistent with genuine age and usage). No repairs.

A very nice example of one of these bells but, to me, some misinformation or perhaps wishful thinking on the part of the seller. The dating may be somewhat suspect, as there is no provenance given. The designs are painted, not engraved. These bells are normally hung in a group, the internal ring used to attach the bell below, and not to hang a clapper since these bells are struck with a mallet.

187d – An Antique Bronze Bicycle Bell c1910/20
This antique bicycle bell I think dates to around 1910/20, the bell has a bronze top that has nice patina with age and is in working order but a little stiff so may need oiling , on the ringing handle it has impressed “The Challis”, the bell measures 3 inches diameter, there are some scuffs and scratches to the bell as seen in the photo and slightly crooked but could be straightened out but still a great bell.

Can’t tell you anything about it, way out of my area, but whatever it is the boys went nuts over it.

187e – RARE! ANTIQUE FIGURAL ENGLISH BULLDOG DESK SHOP COUNTER BELL WORKS
You are bidding on a very cool antique, early 1900’s German made figural English Bulldog desk, shop, counter bell, signed on the back, Made in Germany. A very unusual somewhat whimsical antique counter bell with super detail. Bulldog’s head appears to be a molded celluloid or an early plastic, highly detailed with very cool eyes, embossed on the top of it’s head Germany. Bulldog’s face is placed over metal works, held together with early screws, winds on the backside (shown), lower lip is pressed down to ring the bell, works great. Measures approx. 4 1/4″ across the bulldog’s ears x 3 1/2″ x approx. 3 1/2″ tall. Noted one small screw missing on the left side and there is a tight 1″ crack in the mold located in the 5:00 position on the bulldogs neck, this can be viewed in photo #4. I have not cleaned or altered this bell in any way, in my opinion it could use a gentle cleaning, I have left that option up to the new owner. A very cool and might I say rare counter bell, I searched and could not find another being offered.

You see this bell more often in metal, and there are some reproductions of those around. As far as I know, all the celluloid models are original, as this one appears to be. A genuinely rare mechanical bell, and I was surprised it did not sell at a higher price.
