A viewer has kindly sent a photo of another of these bells, this one complete with the missing object that the figure would have been holding. (The original photo is on the left, the new photo on the right.) It appears to be a staff with bells mounted on crossarms in three tiers. Perhaps used for a procession?
This second bell has the face, neck, and hands painted, but the remainder is plain bronze. It was purchased over 20 years ago at the Louvre des Antiquaires, a high end antique mall just across the Rue de Rivoli from the Louvre Museum in Paris.
