This is known either as a Claw Bell (Tiger-claw Bell) because of its shape, or an Elephant Bell because of its function. They were attached to the harness trappings of an elephant and supposedly used to scare away tigers. They are brass, made in India, and often the incised designs are enamel filled. Some were made for the stated purpose, but many, perhaps most, were made as souvenir and export items. Yours appears to be a substantial copy and well made, as opposed to the flimsy models often encountered. Price/value depends on where and when sold. However, a dealer will usually not pay more than half his/her intended sale price, so you may have got a relative bargain.
